Welcome to the first installment of Platfrm’s newest video series, CORE. This series will explore the people, shops, brands, non-profits, and all things skateboarding related that shape the industry.
In this first episode, we take a closer look at Kingswell, a brick and mortar store situated in the hillside neighborhood of Los Feliz in Los Angeles, California. Established in 2013 and co-owned by former professional skateboarders Patrick Melcher and DJ Chavez, Kingswell aims to be more than just a retail space for skateboarding products. It also serves as a hub for skateboarders and incorporates elements such as a tattoo booth, space for photography and art displays, and occasional music performances. Melcher and Chavez’s vision for the store reflects their deep-rooted history in skateboarding and their desire to emphasize creativity and originality within the sport. In this video, you’ll learn about the two shop owners, their skateboarding careers, how the store came to be, and even uncover a historical Easter egg related to the Kingswell location.
