Starting off the year, we have a transition heavy line up featuring Lady Meek getting after it in backyard pools, Ash Wilcomes dialing in his moves at the CATF, Tommy Calvert scraping coping at Prince Park in Oceanside, a backyard mini bowl session with Bryce Wettstein, and ending with Liam Pace navigating through the crust at San Diego’s oldest skatepark in Ocean Beach.
We invited our top 8 Finalists – Arisa Trew, Asahi Kaihara, Reese Nelson, Bryce Wettstein, Juno Matsuoka, Raicca Ventura, Ruby Lilley, Dora Varella and gave wildcards to Jada Ward and Lilly Stoephasius to compete for the Women’s Best Trick. Note that while Arisa Trew is the first woman to make a 720 in a competition, we learned that Hikari Satake actually completed a 720 on a private ramp in 2022. Congrats to both!
Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert from June 2023 saw Tony’s epic vert ramp in the middle of the Delta Center! THVA 2023 may have had the biggest turnout for a women’s vert contest in…maybe ever? Check the best international Vert Women’s Finals with Arisa Trew, Asahi Kaihara, Reese Nelson, Bryce Wettstein, Juno Matsuoka, Raicca Ventura, Ruby Lilley, and Dora Varella. New this year was a partnership with the XGames where the top skaters from Vert Alert qualified for Summer X.
Eight of the world’s best skateboarders gathered on top of the Lauridsen park deck for the women’s park final at Dew Tour Des Moines. The 2022 line of women included Jordyn Barratt, Kisa Nakamura, Lizzie Armanto, Bryce Wettstein, Mami Tezuka, Cocona Hiraki, Sakura Yosozumi, and Sky Brown. Olympic skateboarder and recent pro for Stereo Skateboards, Bryce Wettstein shares her favorite thing about skateboarding and the importance of building public skateparks. On March 2nd, Stereo Skateboards gathered Bryce Wettstein’s friends, family, and teammates to surprise her with her debut pro model! What followed was an incredible day of storytelling, laughs, tears, hugs, and even a living room premier of Bryce’s new video part!
