Matthias Reich is a renowned Austrian videographer with a fabulous sense of space and its uses in terms of skateboard filming.
If you take a look at any of his projects over the last four years for – the vistas of the former Yugoslavia, the monuments of southern Russia, Daniel Spiegel and Simon Stricker’s equally smoking Checkouts – what comes across in each is a lovely sense of lenswork, framing and composition which elevate the skating without overshadowing it.
