Go back to Portland, Oregon, and Chris Joslin’s battle to put it down at the 2025 Rockstar Energy Open. “I used to compete because I’m a competitive person, but now I compete because I’ve got a family to feed.” Joslin’s dedication and focus are clear at every single event. Chris failed to make the cut for the Men’s Street Finals, but he didn’t let it define his weekend. “It sure is important to come back from your setbacks… for me, I’ve got a reason to keep going. I’ve got a family.” This episode of First Person: Chris Joslin follows him through the weekend, right up to the moment he won the Cash for Tricks Best Trick Jam to leave his mark on the event. “The fans saved my life.”
Portlanders and pro skateboarders alike packed into the crowds for finals day at the 2025 Rockstar Energy Open (RSEO) on Sunday, and even more industry elite were on the deck to film, photograph and keep the action organized during the Men’s Park Final. In the end, though, Tom Schaar was able to take a victory lap to end the event. Unlike your typical victory lap, Tom was followed into the bowl by Chris Gregson.

Closing out the Rockstar Energy Open is the Men’s Park Final and we have Tom Schaar taking the top rank! Yuro Nagahara finishes in second and Gavin Bottger in third place.
On her third and final run Coco Yoshizawa takes the top spot in the Women’s Street final at the Rockstar Energy Open. Coming in second place is Ibuki Matsumoto and Mei Ozeki in third.
Friday, August 15th kicks off the first competition day of the Rockstar Energy Open 2025 at Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon! Tune in for the Rockstar Energy Video Qualifier Series Street Qualifier, where the top four men and top two women will continue into the semi-final round. Closing out the first day of competition will be the Men’s Park Qualifier.
The Rockstar Energy Open VQS (Video Qualifier Series) is BACK and there is major money up for grabs once again. That’s right, ANYone can submit a :30-1 minute video for their chance to win a piece of the $24,000 on the line. Ready for the details? Here’s the breakdown:
There will be 7 weeks open to video submissions between June 2 and July 25, 2025. Each week 1 woman and 1 man will each be awarded $1,000 for the best video shared on Instagram with #RSOPENVQS. At the end, there will be Best Trick and Viewers Choice awards of $2,500 each given to women and men.
After the money has been dished out in full, the top 10 women and top 10 men will be invited to skate at the Rockstar Energy Open in Portland, Oregon on August 15 in the VQS On-Site Qualifier. The park best trick jam unleased 45 minutes of drop-in time for both men and women skateboarders to get after hammers and a chance to roll away with cash. The one big session was hectic but provided non-stop action that kept everyone on their feet.
