INSIDE THE SKATER’S STUDIO: Eastern Exposure 3 “Underachievers” With Ricky Oyola
It’s been a LONG hiatus for Inside the Skater’s Studio, so Theories of Atlantis is making a comeback with a real doozy. Easily in our top 5 favorite skate videos of all time and clearly one of the very best street-skating videos ever, Eastern Exposure 3 “Underachievers” has been long overdue on the Skater’s Studio. And Ricky Oyola’s part is THE one we all want to hear about. We got Ricky together with another TOA favorite, Paul Zitzer, to dive into the classic part and get some behind the scenes nuggets of how it all came to be. And, as Ricky says, Zitzer’s in it too!
This was filmed literally 5 years ago, right before the world went insane in early 2020. But due to some audio issues during the shoot, it got shelved for years with plans of re-filming. But TOA finally decided it was too good to not put it out and the logistics of having Ricky and Paul Zitzer in the same room together were quite slim. So here it is. Yes, the audio isn’t great, but it’s fine. So sit back and enjoy some stories behind the video that completely changed the game for the east coast of the USA back in 1996.

And Theories of Atlantis were gifted all of the raw footage from the project and wanted to share it with their footy-hungry audience. This edit is filled with rugged & rad spots all around Philly and the surrounding area and it’s cool to see some of the battles and multitude of makes they captured along the way to finishing the part.

“Observers” by Brainstorm Skateboards & Push Skate Shop – Theories of Atlantis
“Observers” is a new video brought about through a collaboration between Push Skate Shop, Theories Brand and Brainstorm Skateboards. The TOA crew made a jaunt down to Asheville, North Carolina this summer to launch a TOA art show with Push Skate Shop as well as a collab deck between Push, Theories Brand and local Asheville brand Brainstorm Skateboards. As a way to honor the collab, Brainstorm chief Eric Hunt filmed a rad new video piece and worked with editor Kerry Webb to bring us “Observers”. Featuring Eric Hunt, Dyshon Whidbee, Griffin Faulkner, Kevin Cordell, Sam Buxton, Kerry Webb and many more, the nearly 9 minute edit showcases the local Asheville scene with a visual nod to the eerie local legend of the Brown Mountain Lights. A mysterious unexplained ghost-light phenomemon occurring regularly in the hills of Brown Mountain, just outside of the Asheville urban center.
