Dew Tour Press Conference: State of Skateboarding, presented by Toyota

Participants include officials from Dew Tour, World Skate, USA Skateboarding and skateboarders Mariah Duran, Jordyn Barratt, Dashawn Jordan and Heimana Reynolds. Hosted by Kim Woozy.
Jordyn, Part Two | Presented by Toyota USA
Team Toyota athlete Jordyn Barratt grew up in Hawaii skating at Banzai Skatepark. There weren’t any other little girls skating at the park when Jordyn first began. At around 14 years old, Jordyn moved to California and realized there were more skaters just like her. But as she started to compete against some of the girls, she looked up to the competition grew fierce. Gnarly. Some of the older girls were pretty mean, an experience that Jordyn vowed to change for the future girls of skating. It’s not like that anymore, according to Jordyn, partially due to the expanded contest circuit, which has allowed a little more room for everyone to grow. She knows what it’s like to get picked on, so she’s made it a point to make any girls who are coming up feel welcome—the more, the merrier, in her opinion.

Jordyn, Part One | Presented by Toyota USA – Dew Tour
Growing up on the North Shore of O’ahu, Jordyn Barratt was naturally drawn to surfing, but the passion just wasn’t there for her. Instead, she found her passion in skateboarding. Drawing inspiration from ‘80’s skate style, and the skaters who lived it, Jordyn watched those old videos until the VHS was worn out. Now, she often finds herself recreating the tricks from those same during her competition runs. Lately, as a part of Team USA, she’s training harder than ever but still keeping her focus on the most important aspect of skating: having fun.
