Jamie Thomas: Behind The Cover

Good artists borrow, great artists steal, and some artists are so epic they can borrow and steal from themselves and the result is just as awesome as it was the first time you saw it. Jamie Thomas had the genius idea to kickflip over his motorcycle 20 years ago in his legendary Welcome To Hell part and we decided that in honor of Zero’s 20th anniversary we should try our hand at recreating that iconic photo for our digital catalog cover. Lucky for us, Tommy Sandoval had the exact same bike, eS just reissued the exact same shoes, and Jamie has the exact same kickflip. Being able to do a trick 20 years after you filmed it for your video part is pretty amazing. Jamie walked us through the process of how it went down for this behind the cover video.

The Day: Enjoi

Watching Bag Of Suck on repeat got us nostalgic for a little San Jose trip. So we hopped a flight to Silicon Valley and booked a room at the legendary Tiltmode Mansion. We were lovingly welcomed by the mansion’s owner and proprietor, Louie Barletta with a warm couch to sleep on and some cool beverages to quench our thirst. We hit some parks, some streets, and even some arcades and bowling alleys before our day was over. We got the full Enjoi V.I.P. treatment! The crew was Louie, Caswell Berry, Jackson Pilz, Mike Adamov, Zack Wallin, Jose Rojo, and of course Ben Raemers. Bless his soul, little Ben couldn’t find any hardware all day long so he didn’t get to skate with us. He may actually still be looking for some now, so if you see Ben in the streets, be a dear and give him a few nuts or a bolt.

Getting To Know Sewa Kroetkov

Ever wondered how to pronounce Sewa Kroetkov’s name? Don’t lie, we know you have. Well, we sat Sewa down at the Dwindle headquarters to ask him that question and then once we had him there, we figured we would find out some more about him. From his family’s immigration from Russia to Holland, to how the video game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater got him stoked on skateboarding when he was 10, Sewa gives us a good idea of what makes him tick. Find out who was his favorite skater growing up and what it was like to win Battle At The Berrics by clicking that damn play button!

Blind Micro Game Of S.K.A.T.E. with Sewa And Romar

They say a true artist can paint with any brush, and that the photographer who relies on having a nice camera is probably a hack. The same could be said about a skateboarder and his whip. If you take any truly talented skateboarder and give him anything where four wheels are attached to a piece of wood or something that resembles wood, they should be able to do something cool with it.

Jaws And Raybourn Footage In “The Other Ones”

Good footage is good footage. Whether you’ve seen it once or 100 times, chances are if something is sick you don’t mind watching it again. Using that logic we hit up master videographer Thad Croskey for some old clips of our team boys Ben and Jaws. Thad was the filmer for Ipath Footwear back in the days when Ben and Jaws were first discovered and thrown in to the face of the skate world. Thad made an epic video called “The Other Ones” that both boys had a part in. We had Thad dig through his archives and pick out some of the bangers to make this little throwback edit. These two have come a long way, but they have always been insane to watch skate and it’s rad to have little time capsules like this to keep the memories alive.

The Day: An Afternoon With The Crap Crew

Few people know how to spend their days as well as skateboarders. That’s why we love following crews around to see how they fill their time from sun to sun. We linked up with the Crap Eyewear homies down in LA to spend a day with them and see what they got in to. After meeting up in the morning at the headquarters Blake Johnson, Truman Hooker, and Kevin White jumped in the van to hit the streets and see what they could come up with.
