X Games 2001 SKATEBOARD STREET FULL COMP: X GAMES THROWBACK
Twenty years ago today, on August 11, 2001, X Games held its first Skateboard Street competition at City Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And it was mayhem. Imagine the scenario: across a busy downtown street from Love Park, Philadelphia’s City Hall was already a go-to destination for street skaters. And with the addition of a few banked landings that created new lines, X Games took to the streets for the very first time. Featured skaters include Kerry Getz, Eric Koston, Kareem Campbell, Kyle Berard, Chris Senn, Ricky Oyola, Rick McCrank, Josh Kalis and some impromptu MC’ing from Jason Ellis.

Along with the checks, the trophies, and the accolades, and what that means for skateboarding supersedes it all. It’s about power, it’s about potential, and every showdown champions those who rise to the occasion and skateboarding as a whole.

BEAGLE Tapes: Episode 46 – Chad Muska and Reno
At a 14 stair in Pasadena, Eric Koston attempts a nollie heelflip and Braydon Szafranski attempts a fakie kickflip. The combination of height and length prevails, and the boys come up empty handed. Upon Chad Muska’s request, Reno, the underdog, throws a boneless down the 14 and rides away victoriously. Muska, keeps the street lit and Atiba Jefferson gets the flick.
The following day, at a bus station off the 101 freeway, Chad Muska stakes his claim on a never-touched wall-grind. Chad begins a dance of madness, it takes two to tango. The spot and skater, confidence and creativity, all it takes is ONE. First round knock out, swagger like Mic-Fuckin-Jagger. Against the grain on the 101, a path less traveled. Circa 2006. – Beagle
