Vitoria Mendonça first caught JENKEM’s eye thanks to the sneaky Instagram algorithm but has since held onto their attention through her excellent output with Element and Adidas. She’s got an impressive and powerful style, and she’s a kind soul, too, which goes a lot further than you would think when it comes to moving up in the industry. JENKEM met up with her during her stay in New York as she checked out some of the most iconic spots in the city.
JENKEM Premiere: NO WAY
Filmed by Joey Hansen. Edited by Cameron Brenkman & Austin Encinias. Brought to you by JENKEM.
Hanging out with… Sheezy – JENKEM
Sheezy is a really rad skater from Australia who JENKEM recently met while visiting Seattle. They decided to do some classic skate tourism and checked out some famous LA area landmarks: Sunken City, Channel Street DIY and a shooting range.
Scoping out Roosevelt Island with Citi Bike Boyz – JENKEM
JENKEM hit up head Citi Bike Boy Jerome Peel to see if he’d be up for the challenge of hitting the Roosevelt Island monument dedicated to FDR. Luckily, they were able to dupe security, get the clip, and walk away without being detained this time around. Jerome waltzed in and made it look ridiculously easy.
Junnosuke Hasegawa for Lesque Skateboards – JENKEM
Junnosuke has both the style and ability to make Street League-level skating look entertaining. It’s rare someone other than Yuto Horigome can do that for us, so JENKEM thought they’d showcase Junnosuke’s part just in case he blows up and becomes the next Japanese skateboarding superstar.
Shop Talk at Plush Skate Shop Grand Opening in New Haven, CT – JENKEM
JENKEM took the drive up to New Haven, CT to the grand opening of Alexis Sablone and Trevor Thompson’s new shop, Plush. JENKEM hung out and got to see what their neighbors across the way are feeling and what they’re not vibing with at all.
An Ode to Donny Barley – JENKEM
In appreciation of one of skateboarding’s most powerful skaters ever, JENKEM’s friend Joey Sinko edited his most memorable video moments into a mega compilation. A few rare pros have been able to leave their careers behind gracefully. Donny Barely is now one of them. He’s swapped the title of “pro skater” for a more traditional job within the skate industry managing east coast sales and events for Element. Although it might sound like some lame office gig in comparison, we’re all just happy that Donny bowed out before his switch hardflip down the Santa Monica triple set could be overshadowed by accusations of him “milking it.” – JENKEM
Parts with Gifted Hater – JENKEM
Gifted Hater, aka Joa Fields, joins JENKEM to share some early skate video memories and his thoughts on T-Pud’s fits. Since he is known for his ability to over-analyze and shit talk all things skateboarding, including videos, it was nice to hear some positivity flowing through his microphone.
JENKEM – We Tried Foods from Iconic Skate Videos
It’s always amazing how the tiniest details from skate videos can get permanently fried into your brain. To this day, I sing “eat that shrimp” every single time I’m eating shrimp, and I can’t pour myself a glass of juice without swigging it around in the jug like Terry Kennedy in Baker 3. Little moments like this got us thinking about all the other unconventional food clips that have made it into skate videos over the years, and we were itching to try some of them for ourselves. – JENKEM
JENKEM – Checking out the historic spots of Athens, Greece
Spend the day checking out Athens, Greece a city known much more for its ancient history than its skate scene. But just because the world at large hasn’t seen many Athenian skate spots doesn’t mean there aren’t any to be found. Watch as we get a proper skate tour from Thanos Panou and Notis Aggelis of one of the most significant cities in human history. – JENKEM
JENKEM PREMIERE: Myles Willard’s “Myles and The Machine” Part
Treat yourself to Myles’ tasteful skating, Ed Templeton’s artistic and comedic input, Don Luong’s video work, and clips from the rest of the Toy crew. By the looks of this video, it seems the fresh faces on Toy are injecting some new life into the brand. – JENKEM
JENKEM PREMIERE: Eli Williams & friends in “Overload”
“Overload” doesn’t follow any of the current trends you see in most videos, i.e. there is no dramatic slow-mo zoom-ins or 16mm B-roll here. Instead, the video relies on fast raw skating and an editing style filled with left turns to make the final product. Enjoy Eli Williams part from the entire 2 hour spastic behemoth. – JENKEM
