At age 12, Tom Schaar landed skateboarding’s first 1080. It was a career defining trick that gained Tom international attention as well as a bit of a stigma within the core skateboard community as an ‘air baby.’ Since then Tom has proven himself to be more than a one-trick-wonder. From video parts for Element Skateboards in backyard pools to dominating the Vans Park Series Pro Tour, Tom has shown he’s able to adapt to any terrain. In this Rider Profile we visit Tom’s house in San Diego California to discuss his career, his goals for the future, and to follow him on a filming session at Washington Street skatepark with his friend and filmer Chris Gregson.

The 2018 Vans Park Series Pro Tour kicked off in Sao Paulo with a brand new skatepark built to VPS specifications. Tom Schaar (USA) continued his impressive form from 2017 to take the win ahead of local hero and winner of the previous 2 Brazil stops Pedro Barros (BRA). Tristan Rennie (USA) earned his first podium result in 3rd place.

2018 Vans Pool Party: Pros Highlights | Vans Pool Party | VANS
Vans’ newest family member and last year’s champion, Tom Schaar, dominated the Pros division from the very first heat, easing into his third Pool Party title. With a mental combination of switch lip tricks and airs up in the rafters, Schaar forced the rest of the pack to compete for second place all evening. Vans riders Cory Juneau and Chris Russell, hammered their way into the top 3 with Juneau sliding mile-long front boards in the deep and The Muscle smashing everything to disaster falling just short of Schaar with solid scores of 94.33 and 93.33 for Russell.
