In this episode of Portraits: Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, check in with the man and all that his local scene has to offer. The newest rider for Faces Skate Shop, Jaws explains his choice to buy a house in Arizona, where he grew up, and not plant new roots in California. Simply put, it’s where he feels comfortable, and he’s also able to make an impact of a different sort for the skate community. Reflecting on the days before social media, Jaws remembers the endless days of making edits with his homies—a special time that he still cherishes, and hopes to instill with others.

Jaws also gets us up-to-date with his recent knee injury, a torn ACL and meniscus. To all the people that told him, “You got to be careful, you’re going to be hurting when you’re older.” He didn’t listen and he’s glad he didn’t. So are we.

SIMPLE SESSION 25 SKATE BEST TRICK

Simple Session’s 25th-anniversary celebrations kicked off raw and real with VISIT ESTONIA’s Best Trick battle at Krulli District. The standout? ‘Kelluke’ (‘The Bell’) — a brand-new, skateable sculpture we built for the City of Tallinn. It’s set to level up the local street spots soon to be locked in at Freedom Square, so get back and session it again!

The session was straight fire, with hammers dropping left and right, all fueled by the Cash for Tricks format. Aaron “Jaws” Homoki (USA) claimed the overall victory with a flawless backside 360 flip melon grab. Jaime Mateu went all out, throwing down the biggest amount of wildest tricks and ultimately splitting the Best Trick prize with Jaws. The highest air contest saw Greyson Fletcher (USA) and Marcello Jiménez (Chile) tie for first after ringing the 2.6-meter high bell.
