We Are Skateboarders: A Mental Health Transformation. – Documentary

Ride Channel was happy to give this documentary some additional exposure in hopes that its story can help someone struggling with mental health.

“We Are Skateboarders: A Mental Health Transformation” is an autobiographical, experimental documentary that uncovers the story behind filmmaker Ben Duffy’s first breakout film We Are Skateboarders—and the 15-year mental health battle that followed.

At just 19 years old, Ben created a film that became the second most viewed skateboarding documentary in history, behind Dogtown and Z-Boys. But as the film gained momentum, Ben’s life unraveled. Living with undiagnosed bipolar disorder, complex PTSD, trauma, and overwhelming pressure, he began a journey that forced him to redefine what success really means.

This raw and deeply personal documentary follows Ben as he finally steps into therapy, faces long-buried pain, and transforms suffering into creativity, healing, and self-compassion.
It’s a story about skateboarding, yes—but even more, it’s a story about mental health, resilience, and rebuilding a life.
